What is a Holder Identification Number (HIN)?

A Holder Identification Number (‘HIN’) is a unique number that is issued to you by Stake when you open an ASX account. It verifies you as a CHESS sponsored shareholder for all of your Australian shares.

All your CHESS sponsored shares held within the same account are represented by a single HIN.

The full format for a HIN is 11 characters, usually starting with an 'X' followed by 10 digits (11 characters in total).

You can find your HIN under Profile > Account Details  > HIN.

Note that Stake shows you the shorthand HIN format, i.e. 123456789, without the letter 'X' and preceding zeros.

When searching on the registry, you'll need to include the 'X' followed by the Stake HIN digits. You may need to enter a "0" before your Stake HIN e.g. "X0123456789" to create 11 characters in total.

For more information about your HIN, please reach out here or send an email to [email protected] with your enquiry.
